Pay Raise Calculator Germany 2026
€300 more gross sounds good, but what arrives? This calculator compares old and new salary and shows the share of the raise that actually lands in your account.
| Before | After | |
|---|---|---|
| Gross / month | €3,800.00 | €4,100.00 |
| Net / month | €2,497.42 | €2,659.17 |
| Deduction rate | 34.3% | 35.1% |
| Net / year | €29,969 | €31,910 |
Assumptions: statutory insurance (2.9% surcharge), childless 23+. Every raise is taxed at your marginal rate, which is why less arrives net than is added gross.
Why so little arrives
Every additional euro is taxed at your marginal rate, for middle incomes typically 40 to 50% including social contributions. Your overall deduction rate is lower because the tax-free allowance and lower brackets pull the average down, but a raise only ever sees the top. Negotiating for a net target? Work backwards with the net-to-gross calculator. If the raise only matches inflation, the bracket creep calculator shows what is left in real terms.
Frequently asked questions
How much of a pay rise actually reaches my net salary?
Because German income tax is progressive, only a portion of a raise reaches your take-home. On a salary around 50,000 EUR, about 55 to 65 cents of each extra euro in gross reaches you net.
Do salary increases affect social insurance contributions?
Contributions to pension, unemployment and health insurance increase proportionally up to the contribution ceiling. Above the ceiling (about 8,450 EUR per month for pension in 2026) the extra gross is not subject to further social contributions.
Is it worth negotiating a higher salary or better benefits?
Tax-exempt benefits such as a job ticket, meal vouchers or an e-bike can be more cost-effective than an equivalent salary increase because they are not subject to income tax or social contributions.
