How it works
Income tax is 20% up to your rate band (€44,000 single, €53,000 married one-income, €48,000 single parent) and 40% above, less your tax credits. USC uses the 2026 bands (0.5%, 2%, 3%, 8%) with the €13,000 exemption. PRSI Class A is 4.2% until 30 September 2026 and 4.35% after, applied here as a blended annual rate with the weekly exemption and tapered credit. Details on the Ireland methodology page.

Frequently asked questions
How much tax do I pay in Ireland in 2026?
Income up to EUR 44,000 (single) is taxed at the standard rate of 20 percent and income above that at 40 percent. Universal Social Charge (USC) and PRSI are also deducted. The total effective rate on average salaries is around 30 to 35 percent.
What is the Universal Social Charge (USC)?
USC is a tax on gross income above EUR 13,000. In 2026 the rates are 0.5 percent up to EUR 12,012, 2 percent up to EUR 28,700, 3 percent up to EUR 70,044 and 8 percent above that.
Do I get a personal tax credit in Ireland?
Yes. The personal tax credit is EUR 2,000 (single) or EUR 4,000 (married) for 2026. The employee (PAYE) tax credit adds a further EUR 2,000. These directly reduce your income tax bill.
What changes does Budget 2027 bring to Irish take-home pay?
Budget 2027 (announced 7 October 2026) increases the standard rate band by EUR 2,000 to EUR 46,000 for single earners and raises the main tax credits. PRSI increases from 4.2 percent to 4.35 percent from 1 October 2026. The changes take full effect from 1 January 2027. The calculator currently uses the 2026 rates; a 2027 update will follow in January.
