Gross Salary Calculator Ireland 2026
Start from the number that matters, what you need each month, and work backwards to the salary you should ask for.
| Required gross (annual) | €43,337 |
|---|---|
| Total deductions | €7,337 |
| Take-home (annual) | €36,000 |
Assumptions: Single, Class A PRSI, standard credits, no pension. Solved by bisection against the same engine as the main calculator, accurate to the cent of the target.
Why you can't just multiply
Tax is progressive: the deductions on your last unit of income are higher than on the first. A fixed "multiply by X" rule of thumb is wrong at almost every income level, and badly wrong near thresholds. This tool inverts the full tax calculation instead, so the answer is exact under the stated assumptions. Fine-tune your filing status (single, married or single parent) and a personal pension contribution in the main Ireland calculator.
Frequently asked questions
What deductions reduce my gross salary in Ireland?
Income Tax (PAYE), Universal Social Charge (USC) and Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI) are the three main deductions. Pension contributions and health insurance premiums may also reduce your take-home.
What is PRSI in Ireland?
Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI) funds social welfare benefits. Most employees pay Class A PRSI at 4.1 percent of gross earnings above EUR 352 per week.
How does the standard rate cut-off point work?
Income up to the standard rate cut-off point (EUR 44,000 for a single person in 2026) is taxed at 20 percent. Income above that is taxed at 40 percent. The cut-off increases for married couples.
