Same number, local currency: this compares tax systems, not living standards. Assumptions per country are the standard single-filer settings of each calculator.

How to read this honestly

The comparison keeps the number constant in each local currency, so it compares tax systems, not salaries or living costs: €60,000 in Berlin and $60,000 in Dallas are different lives. Also remember what sits outside the deduction rate: Germany's contributions buy near-free healthcare, Australia's 12% super arrives on top of the salary, and US figures exclude state tax, which ranges from zero to over 13%.

Frequently asked questions

Which country has the highest take-home pay?

It depends on salary and family situation. Lower-tax countries like Switzerland and Singapore generally leave more net pay, but the calculator lets you compare the same gross figure across each country.

Are the figures exact?

They are estimates based on standard single-person assumptions: one income, no children, average or typical deductions. Use the individual country calculators for a figure tailored to your situation.

Which countries are included?

The calculator covers the UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, the Netherlands, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with more countries being added.
