Net West: North Rhine-Westphalia with VBL West (1.81% own share). Net East: Saxony with VBL East (4.25% into the funded scheme, tax free). Both tax class I, no children, 2.9% health insurer surcharge. The nursing allowance paid at university hospitals and in forensic and prison settings is not included. In KR 8 everyone starts at step 2; there is no step 1. With at least two years of relevant experience with another employer you start at step 3. The next steps follow after one, two, three, four and five years at the previous step. The times to steps 4 to 6 can be shortened or extended depending on performance. The years count in the same grade with the same employer. Hourly pay is the monthly amount divided by 4.348 times weekly hours (38.5 hours in hospitals in the West; 40 hours in the East).
Annual bonus and annual gross
The annual bonus (Jahressonderzahlung) is paid with the November salary: 88.14% of monthly pay in TV-L KR 8. At step 3 that is about €3,382 gross, based on table pay. Annual gross pay is €49,427. What is left of the bonus after tax is shown by the bonus tax calculator.

The agreement of 14 February 2026 provides 2.0% from 1 March 2027 and 1.0% from 1 January 2028. The TV-L applies in every federal state except Hesse.

About €2,331 at step 2 and about €2,735 at step 6 a month in tax class I in the West. Exact net pay depends on tax class, health insurer and supplementary pension.
Does the table apply to part time?
Part-time staff receive table pay and allowances pro rata, so half the hours means half the pay. The hourly rate stays the same.
