  • 2026 transition zone: €603.01 to €2,000. Employee contribution base = (2000 / 1397) x (pay minus 603), factor F 0.6619; split as in the German Pension Insurance calculator.
  • Despite reduced contributions you earn full pension credits on your actual pay.
  • Assumptions: statutory insurance (2.9% avg. surcharge), childless 23+, no church tax.

Why this zone exists

Without it, earning one euro above the mini-job limit would suddenly trigger full contributions of over 20%. Instead, the base for your employee contributions starts near zero at €603 and glides up to the full wage at €2,000. In class I, moving above €603 therefore does not cost net pay: €604 leaves €601.29 against €581.29 at €603. In class VI it can: wage tax applies, and €604 leaves only €533.79 against €581.29 in the mini-job. Above €2,000 the regular rules of the salary calculator apply.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Midijob in Germany?

A Midijob is employment with gross pay between 556.01 EUR and 2,000 EUR per month in 2026. Employees in this range pay reduced social insurance contributions using a sliding scale, while the employer pays full contributions.

How are Midijob contributions calculated?

Employee social insurance contributions start near zero at the lower limit (556 EUR) and gradually increase to the standard rate at 2,000 EUR. The employer always pays the full rate on the actual gross pay.

Does a Midijob count for pension entitlement?

Yes. Even though employee pension contributions are reduced in the Midijob range, pension entitlement accrues as if full contributions were paid, because the employer contributes the difference.
