Monday to Friday, minus statewide public holidays. In 2026 the states range from 252 to 254 working days; the difference comes from holidays such as Corpus Christi, All Saints' Day, Reformation Day or International Women's Day.

How it works

The calculator counts every Monday to Friday in the chosen period, and Saturdays if you tick the box, then subtracts the public holidays that fall on those days. Movable holidays follow Easter: Easter Sunday is on 5 April in 2026 and 28 March in 2027. Holidays that apply only in some municipalities are not subtracted.

Frequently asked questions

How many working days are there in Germany in 2026?

Between 252 and 254 days from Monday to Friday, depending on the state.

Is there a substitute day when a holiday falls on a weekend?

No, not in Germany. A holiday on a Saturday or Sunday does not reduce the Monday to Friday working days.

Which working days count for the commuter allowance?

The days you actually travel to work: working days minus leave, sick days and home office days. The allowance itself is in the commuter allowance calculator.
