CPF Contribution Rates 2026 by Age Group

For employees aged 55 and below, CPF takes 20% from the employee and 17% from the employer (37% total) on ordinary wages up to S$8,000 a month. Rates step down at five age thresholds. Foreigners on work passes do not contribute to CPF.

CPF rates by age band (2026)

Age Employee Employer Total
55 and below 20% 17% 37%
Above 55 to 60 18% 16% 34%
Above 60 to 65 12.5% 12.5% 25%
Above 65 to 70 7.5% 9% 16.5%
Above 70 5% 7.5% 12.5%

Rates apply to Ordinary Wages (OW) up to S$8,000/month. Additional Wages (bonuses, AWS) are covered up to S$102,000 per year minus the CPF-subject OW in that year. Income above the ceilings is free of CPF.

Monthly take-home by salary (age 55 and below)

All figures assume Ordinary Wages only, citizen or PR, no annual bonus. Income tax is assessed separately by IRAS after the year ends.

Monthly gross Employee CPF Employer CPF Take-home (before tax)
$3,000 $600 $510 $2,400
$5,000 $1,000 $850 $4,000
$8,000 $1,600 $1,360 $6,400
$10,000 $1,600 $1,360 $8,400
$15,000 $1,600 $1,360 $13,400

At S$8,000 and above the CPF deduction is capped because OW contributions stop at the ceiling. A salary of S$15,000 loses the same S$1,600 a month to employee CPF as a salary of S$8,000.

How contributions are allocated across three accounts

Every dollar into CPF is split between the Ordinary Account (OA), Special Account (SA) and MediSave Account (MA). The OA earns 2.5% interest and can be used for housing, approved investments and education. The SA earns 4% and is reserved for retirement. MediSave earns 4% and covers approved medical expenses and insurance premiums.

The SA is renamed the Retirement Account (RA) once you turn 55, when OA and SA balances are merged up to the Full Retirement Sum (FRS).

Why employer CPF matters

Employer CPF is on top of, not deducted from, the salary agreed. A S$6,000 offer to a citizen or PR costs the employer S$7,020 in total. When comparing offers with foreigners on work passes, who receive no employer CPF, the headline salary comparison understates the benefit for citizens and PRs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the CPF Ordinary Wage ceiling in 2026?

From 1 January 2026 the Ordinary Wage ceiling is S$8,000 a month, the final step of the four-year increase from S$6,000. Wages above this ceiling are not subject to CPF contributions.

Do CPF contribution rates drop as I get older?

Yes. From age 55 the total rate falls from 37% to 34% (55-60), then 25% (60-65), then 16.5% (65-70), then 12.5% for those above 70. Both the employee and employer shares fall at each step.

Are Employment Pass and S Pass holders required to contribute to CPF?

No. Work pass holders on EP or S Pass do not contribute to CPF and receive no employer CPF top-up. Only Singapore citizens and permanent residents are covered. New PRs contribute at graduated rates for their first two years.
