Required Salary Calculator Canada 2026
Start from the monthly take-home you need and work backwards to the gross salary to ask for, inverted against the same 2026 engine as the main calculator (Ontario assumptions).
| Required gross (annual) | $61,027 |
|---|---|
| Total deductions | $13,027 |
| Take-home (annual) | $48,000 |
Assumptions: Ontario, single filer, automatic credits, no RRSP. Solved by bisection against the same engine as the main calculator, accurate to the cent of the target.
Province matters
This reverse view uses Ontario. The same target take-home needs a noticeably different gross in, say, Quebec or Alberta. Check your province in the Canada salary calculator after getting the Ontario ballpark here.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the gross salary I need in Canada?
Enter your desired net income and province. The calculator reverses federal and provincial income tax, CPP and EI to give you the gross salary needed.
Do CPP and EI affect the required gross significantly?
Yes. CPP contributions are up to about $3,867 per year and EI up to about $1,049 per year. These are included in the reverse calculation.
Is Quebec different from other provinces?
Yes. Quebec has its own pension plan (QPP) instead of CPP, and Quebec provincial income tax rates are higher than most other provinces. The calculator applies Quebec rates when you select Quebec.
